Greg Garza, Josef Martinez included in second consecutive MLS Team of the Week

Atlanta continue to make waves in Major League Soccer

Atlanta United won their first ever home game on Saturday with a 4-0 thumping of the Chicago Fire at Bobby Dodd Stadium. With 10 goals in their last two games and six points out of a possible nine to start, it’s been an exciting start to the team’s debut season.

After last week’s win over Minnesota United, Josef Martinez, Miguel Almiron and Greg Garza were included in Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week. With their most recent win against the Chicago Fire over the weekend, Atlanta were yet again honored in the Team of the Week selection as Martinez and Garza made it for a second consecutive week.

Josef Martinez has introduced himself to MLS in emphatic fashion as he’s scored five goals in three games, the most in the league. The Venezuelan has been deadly when given a chance at goal and has quickly emerged as a frontrunner for the MLS Golden Boot. His five goals in his first three games tie an MLS record set by Carlos Ruiz back in 2002.

Meanwhile, Atlanta’s defenders have been solid, especially Greg Garza. The 25-year old helped Atlanta keep their first clean sheet in team history on Saturday and has been one of the club’s brightest players through the opening stages of the season.

For the second consecutive week, Atlanta United have electrified fans on the field and their players have been deservedly awarded off the field. The honors will likely been taken in stride as the team aims to continue it’s hot streak despite the international break.
