MLS: Chicago Fire at Atlanta United FC
What is going on here?

Hi, I’m Jeremiah Oshan and about three years ago I wrote something kinda mean about you guys. I said MLS going to Atlanta was a mistake. It clearly wasn’t.

Shockingly, my prediction didn’t turn out to poison the well. Despite my misgivings about Atlanta’s willingness to support a MLS team, you all have turned out in impressive numbers. You’re going to break the MLS expansion record for attendance and might even wrest away the Seattle Sounders overall record.

Y’all done good.

So, I’ve come here today to take my medicine. Go ahead and ask me anything you’d like to know and I’ll do my best to answer it.

In the meantime, let’s talk about THAT article. I don’t regret being proven wrong. That happens. What I do kinda cringe at is how I basically took what was passing as “common knowledge” that Atlanta fans just weren’t particularly good and ran with it. It was lazy.

That said, I don’t think anyone who’s being honest saw this coming, certainly not to this degree. I know there were some among you proclaiming that you’d be the “next Seattle” but did you really believe it? You had to be nearly as surprised as me — and just about every other outside observer — when you pushed past 20,000 and then 30,000 season-ticket holders, right? There’s no way you thought there was a chance you’d be selling out Bobby Dodd Stadium and, heck, maybe even the Mercedes-Benz Stadium at some point ... did you?

In any case, what you’ve done as a fanbase is simply amazing, especially when you consider there wasn’t much history of supporting soccer and certainly nothing on this scale. So before you start peppering me, I’d love to know where all this support came from?
