To get everyone ready for Atlanta United’s match against the Montreal Impact, we spoke with Mount Royal Soccer’s Peter Alper to get his take on the status of Ignacio Piatti, Montreal’s early struggles, and his main takeaways early in the season.
DSS: What is Piatti's status for Saturday's match?
MRS: Biello is optimistic that Nacho Piatti could return this Saturday versus Atlanta. His return to the line-up could be the deciding factor between three points or zero.
DSS: What are the tactical explanations for Montreal's early struggles?
MRS: The Impact’s biggest tactical struggles are set pieces. Montreal’s Achilles heel for the past three seasons has been giving up goals in dead-ball situations. Also, not defending properly in the last fifteen which leads to late goals that have costed the Impact many points this season.
DSS: What are your main takeaways from the Impact's start to the season?
MRS: My biggest takeaway is how weak the defense has been so far this season. I'll give the team a break, they haven't had the starting defenders all together for one game this season. I think the team can bounce back and still be a threat this season in the east.
