Match three of a four game road trip is upon us as Atlanta United make another trek up to Canada for the second week in a row to take on the Montreal Impact. On paper, this appears like a great opportunity for the club to get their first win during this four-match span. Les Bleus are near the bottom of the Eastern conference standings with just three points through five matches. After making it to the conference finals in last year’s MLS Cup playoffs, they are finding it difficult to overcome the loss of Didier Drogba’s cough impact cough up top.
Ignacio Piatti’s absence over the past few weeks hasn’t helped matters either. Unlucky for Atlanta, it appears as if the Argentinian superstar will be back and ready to play some part this weekend.
For the Five Stripes, they are in a bit of a lineup selection quandary. Yamil Asad is unavailable for this match while serving his one-match suspension for his red card against Toronto. Jacob Peterson is coming off an ankle injury that kept him home last week. Josef Martinez is still out with his quad injury. This seemed like the perfect spot to get our first official glimpse at Andrew Carleton, but he’s away on international duty with the U.S. U-17’s in Florida preparing for the upcoming CONCACAF Championship. What is Tata Martino to do? Hopefully Peterson is fully fit and ready to go, otherwise there doesn’t seem to be much choice but to change the team’s shape somewhat as there aren’t many other winger options on the roster.
This should be an interesting match-up with Atlanta’s makeshift attack going against Montreal’s suspect defense. It could make for yet another exciting 90 minutes.
FOX Sports South will have the broadcast yet again for this one. Kevin Egan, Dan Gargan, and Brittany Arnold will be live from Montreal with kickoff at 1:00 p.m. and pre and post-game shows sandwiching it.
