Kenwyne Jones has taken advantage of his first MLS start by opening his Atlanta United account with a first half goal to give the Five Stripes a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. A quick restart failed for Montreal and their backline was out of position allowing Kenwyne so much space to go in on goal by himself and confidence finish his first goal.
Unfortunately, just before the halftime whistle Montreal were awarded a penalty and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was shown a red card for a DOGSO challenge in the box. Piatti converted to send it to halftime level.
