Atlanta United look to finish their four-match road trip on a positive note tonight against Real Salt Lake. With a loss and two draws so far, Atlanta need a win to come home with some momentum. The winless trip so far can’t be held against them as the schedule has been bitterly tough. The stretch has seen them face three straight away matches against three of last year’s conference finalists.
Tonight’s matchup against RSL seems to be a very even one with both teams on eight points (RSL have played one more match thus far) entering play. While Atlanta’s results have dipped a bit on this trip, RSL have been gaining momentum thanks to Mike Petke taking charge and the emergence of U.S. youth international Brooks Lennon as a bonafide difference-maker in MLS. The Five Stripes’ defense will have their hands full once again with a dynamic attacking player.
Tyrone Mears was seen in training this week participating at full speed. He should be available to return to the back line. The club also won their appeal on Leandro Gonzalez Pirez’s red card and he’ll undoubtedly be in the lineup barring unforeseen circumstances. The full-strength backline will be available as will most the attackers with the exception of Josef Martinez (quad) and Jacob Peterson (ankle).
This match is one of three that is pushed to CW69 in Atlanta due to conflicts with FOX Sports programming. Outside of Atlanta, the game can be seen on FOX Sports Southeast or streamed on FOX Sports Go. Kevin Egan and Brittany Arnold will be in their usual roles with Atlanta United President Darren Eales filling in for Dan Gargan as the color commentator. Kickoff is at 9:30 p.m. ET.
