Tata Martino gave an update on Josef Martinez’s injury status today after training. Atlanta United’s leading scorer still has a few weeks left on the sideline and have not figured a return date as of yet.

“He keeps getting better day by day. He still has a few weeks left.,” Martino said. “We don’t have a set return date as of yet. We want to be prudent and not rush him back.”

Atlanta United’s leading scorer has missed the last four games with an injury suffered during the most recent international break. With the success Atlanta United is having without Martinez, there’s no need to rush him back, but ideally, you’d like to see him return before key match-ups, such as the Portland Timbers on May 14. That match would be after the four to six week timeline initially presented by the club.

Martino was also asked about Zach Loyd, who’s been out since the beginning of the season with what the team lists as a groin injury.

“He’s finding his best rhythm. He spent a lot of time not playing. But, I think he’ll start being considered for game-day rosters soon,” Martino said.

Greg Garza and Jeff Larentowicz were also mentioned as two players who could miss this weekend’s match against DC United due to slight knocks picked up against Real Salt Lake.
