Report: Jacob Peterson likely to miss Toronto FC match

Unfortunate...

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Seattle Sounders FC Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

After making his first start for Atlanta United in the club’s scoreless draw against the Seattle Sounders last Friday, Jacob Peterson will likely miss Saturday’s match against the other MLS Cup 2016 finalist.

Doug Roberson of the AJC reports that Peterson sustained an injury in training this week and is likely out for the much-anticipated Eastern conference clash with Toronto TC.

The 31-year-old who signed with the club as a free agent ahead of their inaugural season has been a nice role player for Tata Martino to have to utilize. Peterson was able to fill in as a start on the wing against Seattle and has come off the bench to make an impact in previous matches. He even has a goal to his name already this season, heading in a cross to finish off the 6-1 rout of Minnesota United that earned Atlanta their first ever MLS win.

It’ll be interesting to see how Tata replaces him in the matchday squad. He’s been one of the only attacking options on the bench alongside Kenwyne Jones. There’s now a spot open for a dynamic attacking substitute who can change the game. Hmm...I wonder if there’s one of those lying around anywhere?
