ATLANTA UNITED

Atlanta United snapped out of their mini funk with a hard fought 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers on Sunday afternoon. While the result wasn’t what everyone would’ve wanted, the overall performance both on the attacking and defending ends, were encouraging after two dismal matches previously.

Man of the Match: Julian Gressel

The demise of Gresselmania was greatly exaggerated. A stroke of genius from Tata Martino in moving Julian Gressel to the wing proved to work to perfection. The extra space allowed for the rookie to have more time to make decisions and get cleaner touches on the ball.

His second half goal was his first ever in MLS and it was well-taken. Not only that but he was dangerous throughout his time on the field, making great incisive runs and linking up in possession really nice. It was a good individual performance and he’s a worthy winner of MOTM in this writer’s opinion.
