On Wednesday, Atlanta United announced a few changes to their 2017 schedule. Most notably is the big debut at their brand new home, Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Yes, it has been rescheduled, but don’t panic. It’s for a good cause. Originally scheduled for a Saturday on September 9, it has been pushed to Sunday because it will now air on national TV on FOX Sports 1. The new kickoff time is set for 3:30 p.m.
The construction delays for the massive $1.6 billion+ stadium has caused a shake-up in Atlanta’s inaugural schedule. Two previous matches scheduled to be played at Arthur Blank’s palace were postponed earlier in the year. They now have new dates and they are as follows:
The home match against Minnesota United originally scheduled for August 13 has been pushed to Tuesday, October 3 and will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. and be televised on FOX Sports Regional Networks.
The match against LA Galaxy originally scheduled for August 19 has been tentatively pushed to Wednesday, September 20 and will kick off at 7:00 p.m. and be televised nationally on ESPN2 — However, there is a possibility that either LA or Atlanta make the U.S. Open Cup final. If that scenario occurs, October 18 has been chosen as the fallback date.
The new scheduled games look like this:
