Yamil Asad suspended by MLS Disciplinary Committee

He will miss the team’s upcoming match against NYCFC

MLS: D.C. United at Atlanta United FC Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Well, we all thought this might be coming after Yamil Asad’s elbow against Lloyd Sam late in the game Sunday vs. D.C. United. The MLS Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend Asad for one game following a video review of the incident, which occurred in the 83rd minute. Asad will serve the suspension during Atlanta’s next match on Sunday, May 7 against New York City FC. Here’s the play in question.

Lloyd Sam, the victim in question, also took to Twitter to voice his displeasure over the incident following the game.

This is the second time Asad has involved his elbow with an opponent’s skull — something the league has surely taken note of. He was shown a red card for the first incident in Toronto which seemed soft at the time. Now, it probably seems more justified.
