The story behind Miguel Almiron’s “A” celebration

It's not for Atlanta, but it's just as awesome

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Atlanta United FC Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The hat-trick hero from Atlanta United’s 4-1 win over the Houston Dynamo has reason to love the letter ‘A.’ He lives in Atlanta, plays for Atlanta United, was born in Asunción, Paraguay and his last name starts with an ‘A.’

After his second goal, Almiron was seen celebrating by making the letter ‘A’ with both his hands, but it’s something he’s done even before he began playing with Atlanta United. In one highlight reel, he’s seen doing it with his former club, Lanus.

“The ‘A’ is for my wife. I celebrated like that with the academy and then I did it with Cerro (Porteño) and it stuck,” Almiron explained after the match.

His wife’s name: Alexia.

Surely it has taken on a double meaning now. While in his heart it’ll be a direct message to his wife, Atlanta United fans will appreciate the gesture nonetheless. He’s a player that will be remember as one of the first greats in Atlanta United history, and he’ll represent the ‘A’ while doing it.
