MLS: New York City FC at Atlanta United FC Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Two teams struggling to find form will battle it out under the lights at Bobby Dodd Stadium as Atlanta United play host to Columbus Crew, Crew SC, or whatever the hell they’re called.

Both teams are coming off of midweek games in the U.S. Open Cup with contrasting results. Atlanta didn’t play well but was able to secure a win against the club’s USL affiliate Charleston Battery, while Columbus fell to Cincinnati FC. Both teams fielded strong teams with Josef Martinez and Miguel Almiron both playing the full 90 minutes for Atlanta. Almiron will surely start again today, but after playing the entire game, doubts still swirl around Martinez’s inclusion in the starting XI. He was seen nursing what Tata Martino said was a cramp toward the end of the match against Charleston. The most likely scenario is that he starts the game on the bench.

Atlanta will be glad to return home to play in Bobby Dodd Stadium. It might sound like a common refrain, but that’s because Atlanta has played the fewest home matches with a total of five. Every other team in the league has played at least seven home matches. Additionally, Atlanta has already played each of the teams in the Pacific Northwest on the road this season, logging substantial mileage when it comes to their road journeys.

The good news for Atlanta, who clearly isn’t firing on all cylinders at the moment, is that Coumbus Crew is struggling just as much. Crew SC is only 2-6-0 on the road this season. Overall, Columbus has only won three of its last nine games in league play, losing all of the other six. The team fielded stars Federico Higuain and Justin Meram against Cincinnati midweek, so both teams will need to utilize depth in the squad.
