Another venture away from home has left Atlanta United reeling. They return home to Bobby Dodd Stadium tonight where they’ve won three on the trot. While the Atlanta fans have been consistently passionate and selling out BDS, the team’s newfound home form has been a breath of fresh air. It’s just a shame that their road form has suffered at the exact same time.
Tonight’s opponent, the Colorado Rapids, have been abysmal this season. Statistically the worst team in MLS through their 15 matches played. They’ve accrued just 16 points and sit dead last in the weaker Western conference. Technically they have the same amount of points as the Philadelphia Union, but have a much worse goal differential at -7.
Needless to say, Atlanta United should be heavy favorites coming into this one. But they can’t think that way. You can expect to see a full-strength lineup trotted out by Tata Martino in this one. While the fixture list is piling up, there is a two-week break coming and they cannot afford to drop points here. Josef Martinez could finally make his full return to the lineup in MLS play since March. Will we see more Venezuelan magic in Atlanta tonight?
