Atlanta United are goin’ to Miami tonight to get jiggy with the NASL’s best team in 2017. The Five Stripes take on Miami FC at Riccardo Silva Stadium at FIU tonight in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 in what should be an entertaining match-up.
The fixture list is stacking up for Atlanta as they’re in the midst of a stretch where they’ll play eight matches in less than a month’s time. To accommodate for the busy schedule, the club’s top stars will need some type of rest. You can expect to see a more reserve-laden lineup in Miami tonight for Tata Martino. It’s not exactly known who’s made the trip with the team, but don’t be surprised if you don’t see any of the club’s three designated players play tonight in order to keep them fresh for Columbus away at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Miami FC will be gunning for the “upset”. Although it could be argued that a team with a seven-point lead atop the NASL table might be favorites over a bunch of reserve players from an expansion MLS side. Nevertheless, public perception will expect Atlanta to prevail. Former Atlanta Silverbacks and NYCFC player Kwadwo Poku leads Miami. The powerful midfielder has notched three goals and added an assist this season.
This RO16 tie should be exciting. It’ll be a great test for whatever lineup Tata Martino decides to trot out. The match will be streamed FOR FREE at atlutd.com — do not fall for any attempts to get you to pay for a stream. They are all lies.
