Another Atlanta United player is set to take part in Major League Soccer’s All-Star festivities in Chicago. After Greg Garza and Miguel Almiron were voted into the MLS All-Star Game by the fans, Andrew Carleton has been named to the league’s Homegrown team to play Chivas de Guadalajara’s under-20 team a day before the big one against Real Madrid.
The 17-year-old from Powder Springs is the first Homegrown Player in Atlanta United’s history and has been a fixture for the United States under-17 national team. He joins a who’s who of MLS HGP’s to take on one of Liga MX’s best developmental systems. Hopefully he gets to play a ton of minutes and does something GIF-worthy as he seems to do every time he takes the field.
The Homegrown team will be coached by USMNT and MLS legend Brian McBride. The game is on August 1 at Toyota Park in Chicago. While it hasn’t been announced yet, previous editions of this match have been streamed on MLSSoccer.com.
