The Atlanta United Dog Cup Final is here, and in the ring we have a Pre-tournament favorite vs. a plucky veteran who just refuses to lose. Let’s breakdown the match-up.
For Josef Martinez’s Chocolate Lab (can someone in the comments get us this dog’s name?), the key has been the famous cliche “survive and advance.” This good dog has won both of it’s match-ups by a meager five percentage points, making it the narrowest margin of victory in both rounds. However, this dog has knocked off a couple of title challengers along the way, ousting not one but TWO Golden Retrievers from the competition. Martinez’s dog knocked off the pre-tournament favorite, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez’s Golden Retriever “Looney” in the semi’s to advance.
Julian Gressel has been making waves this season as one of the leagues emerging rookie players. But this puppy might be overshadowing him a bit. Like Martinez’s lab, this pup has knocked off some potential winners like the dogs of Chris McCann and Yamil Asad. This is in no small part to the pup’s youthful charm and devilish good looks. It’s almost unfair pitting puppies against full grown dogs, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
