Goal of the Week, Save of the Week and one more nomination to vote for

Time to use the power of your clicking fingers for the forces of good

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Orlando City SC Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

It will come as no surprise to anyone that Tito Villalba's golazo has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, especially as Rob has already alerted you to it. You can vote for his screamer of a score here.

More interesting is that we have a Save of the Week nomination as well. I personally thought two of Brad Guzan's shotstoppers deserved a nod, but the one that did was on Jonathon Spector's header in the 39th minute:

Vote for him here.

But there’s a third vote for you all to work on this week too, and this one will actually mean something more than just proving we sit on our phones and computers all day waiting for the next hour to come around so we can vote again.

MLS Works is the league’s community outreach program, and is dedicated to supporting philanthropic activities in cities around the league. ATLUTD already has its own very active Atlanta United Foundation which is in fact part of the Blank family’s own charitable operations. Recent activities include the Soccer in the Streets initiative, which includes the world’s first soccer pitch at a rail station, as well as the Special Olympics Unified team that played in Orlando ahead of Friday’s game (winning 3-1, by the way).

Annually, MLS Works holds a fan vote for Community MVP. The winner of this vote will receive a $25,000 donation for the project of his or her choice. All 22 teams get to make a nomination. ATLUTD’s nominee is Lusenii Watson, aka “Coach Lu”, who heads up the FirstWorks Soccer program. If he wins, the $25,000 will go to installing a soccer field on the west side, buy a van to create the first travel team in the area, and generally expand the program.

Voting on this important activity is open until August 2nd, and you can learn more about Coach Lu and vote for him here.
