Yesterday marked the end of the MLS summer transfer window. The club made one addition in the form of veteran center back Bobby Boswell. The official announcement of the deal came on Tuesday and the 34-year-old arrived at the club’s beautiful training facility on Wednesday to meet his new teammates and coaching staff and to get to work.
It’s unclear at this point just how much of a role Boswell will play with Atlanta United. Tata Martino spoke at training on Wednesday and didn’t really commit to any plan of usage for the former D.C. United defender. He joked about a possibly three-back formation that had our comments section in a frenzy. However, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see something like that happen. If you stop and look at how Atlanta play, they’re in a three defender set most of the time anyways with Jeff Larentowicz dropping back into the center of defense and the fullbacks pushing forward. Does’t this mean we’ll see Boswell involved in something like that? You never know.
