Is it just me or has it felt like an eternity since the last time Atlanta United played? Well Five Stripes fans, rest assured. The lads are back in action tomorrow night against the pain in our backsides some refer to as D.C. United.
Josef Martinez is finally healthy. Like, there's no way he isn't. Atlanta supporters saw with their collective eyes Martinez running and kicking a soccer ball at the open training. I mean, he has to start tomorrow, right?....RIGHT?
Anyways, here is the definite, surefire starting XI for August 23rd.*
*I'm probably wrong.
Formation: 4-3-3.
Goalkeeper: Brad "I put sunblock on my head" Guzan.
Left Back: Greg Garza. Glad to have him back after the injury he picked up in the All-Star Game. His original timetable for recovery was "7 to 10 days", and that was on August 4th. Plus, he fully participated in the open training. So, I would assume we can expect him back. Although, I've done that for months with Martinez. And, well...
Center Back #1: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez.
Center Back #2: Michael Parkhurst.
Right Back: Anton Walkes. Mears sits. I hate myself. Moving right along.
Central Midfielder #1: Carlos Carmona.
Central Midfielder #2: Jeff Larentowicz.
Attacking Midfielder: Miguel Smilemiron. That's quite the stretch, I know.
Left Winger: Yamil Asad.
Right Winger: Hector Villalba. Villalba on the right?! You know what that means!
Striker: Josef Martinez. My body is ready.
To recap, here's my projected lineup against D.C. United.
