MLS Fantasy Rekrap: Week 25

Mega Double Game Week Edition

MLS: Chicago Fire at Montreal Impact Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a short turn around for MLS teams who haven’t had a two week break, which it turns out is most of the league. The mega double game week is upon us so if you’ve saved your wildcard - oh, right... Since you have unlimited transfers there’s no reason not to have a full 11 of DGW players. The teams playing two games this weekend are excellent and Atlanta United has two juicy matchups even though they are on the road.

Things have been a little busy around here so I’ll spare everyone the usual gloating about green arrows (thanks Nacho), lamenting (what do you mean Joao Mera only played 8 minutes last week?), and feelings of surprise (or not in this case - Minnesota deserved to lose the second they subbed Jermaine Taylor into the game and not try to get their elusive 7th win of the year) and get on with it.

Rekrap’s Roster

Here are the teams with two matches this week:

Just a few notes on my picks. Zach Steffen is the second highest scoring keeper in the league, even with few clean sheets, is ridiculously cheap, and playing two home matches. Be aware that Joevin Jones is out at least against Vancouver because he went to Trinidad probably to get revenge on MLS for releasing their players for the last international break early so they could get extra training in before the USMNT played the Soca Warriors.

Other than who I have on my team, Albert Rusnak and Joao Plata are worth serious consideration with two home matches. Other midfielders to look at are Nico Lodiero and Christian Roldan with double the Cascadia passion on the line for the Sounders this week. If for some reason Josef isn’t starting on Wednesday I might swap him out for Villalba or switch up my formation to add Rusnak or Nico.

Rekrap’s Rejects

Houston is three points off the top spot in the West and plays both SKC and Dallas this weekend. These teams happen to have the two best defenses in the conference this season, avoid their attackers but their defense is worth a look. Otherwise, unless you are going with a differential to try to get some lucky points, stay away from players on scrub teams like DCU, Philly, and Colorado.
