After a...you know what? Let's just forget about it. Moving right along, Atlanta United will look to earn three points tomorrow night in their inaugural matchup with the Philadelphia Union. Carlos Carmona is unavailable due to yellow card accumulation, so who steps up to fill his spot?
Here is the definite, surefire lineup for August 26th.*
*I'm probably wrong. However, I was right on Wednes...nevermind. Suppress the memories.
Formation: 4-3-3.
Goalkeeper: Brad Guzan. He was a brightspot for Atlanta last match. The own goal was completely unfortunate.
Left Back: Greg Garza.
Center Back #1: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez.
Center Back #2: Michael Parkhurst. Not even including the own goal, Parkhurst was poor against D.C. United. Let's hope we see a much improved captain.
Right Back: Anton Walkes. Speaking of poor, goodness gracious Walkes was disappointing on Wednesday. His undefeated streak as a starter is now snapped, and we can only hope he has a much improved effort tomorrow night. I mean, it's not like Atlanta has many options at this position.
Center Midfielder #1: Kevin Kratz. In Carmona's absence, I was tempted to put Julian Gressel here. However, I think Tata Martino has moved past trying to play him in a central midfield role. Gressel is so much better on the wing.
I considered Chris McCann for a second since Martino has brought him on as a sub pretty often, but he just doesn't bring enough to the table to warrant a starting spot.
Center Midfielder #2: Jeff Larentowicz. The man that doesn't rest.
Attacking Midfielder: Miguel Almiron. Certainly not his best performance on Wednesday, to say the least.
Left Winger: Yamil Asad.
Right Winger: Hector Villalba.
Striker: Josef Martinez. Something about him was just a little off against D.C., but that's going to happen after an extended layoff.
To recap, here's my projected lineup against the Philadelphia Union.
