Let’s put a positive spin on it.

The dreaded international break is approaching and Atlanta United are set to relinquish another star player to the uncertainty of national team duty. It was announced earlier this week that Miguel Almiron has been called up by Paraguay, now Venezuela has added Josef Martinez to the list of call-ups for the Five Stripes.

La Vinotinto are set to take on Colombia (Home on Thursday 8/31) and Argentina (Away on Tuesday 9/5) in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers. They currently sit at the bottom of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings and have been eliminated from qualification.

We can look at this two ways. Yes, the last time Josef played for his country he picked up an injury that kept him out for what seemed like an eternity. However, judging from his play against D.C. United where he looked extremely tired, he could certainly use some minutes in a competitive environment to get his legs and confidence back.

All we can do is hope for the best. That he goes, plays well and stays healthy for the playoff run upcoming playoff push.
