Atlanta United look to get back on the horse against another very poor team in the Philadelphia Union. After losing for the third time to the Voldemort XI this season, Tata Martino’s side face another long layoff in the form of an international break. To say this is a must-win would be a complete and utter lie in reality, but for all of our mental states for the next two weeks, this is absolutely a must-win.
The Five Stripes’ high-octane attack has been stymied the past four matches, really. Despite just having a six-match unbeaten run snapped. Over the past couple of months, it hasn’t been the typical free-flowing, fun team we’ve grown to love. They’ll have to find a replacement for Carlos Carmona as he’s suspended due to yellow card accumulation.
The Union are 9th in the East and not completely out of the playoff picture. If they were to beat Atlanta, they’d pull within two points of them in the standings. One concerning factor in this match is the Union’s respectable home record of 7-4-2.
This could be another tight and tense match. Hopefully this time Atlanta United can avoid the one big defensive mistake and capitalize on their chances on the attacking end. With the Mercedes-Benz Stadium opener lurking on the other side of the international break, it would be lovely to go into it with some momentum.
