Good morning DSSers. Welcome to MLS Transfer Deadline Day where one of two things is about to happen. We’re either about to see a ton of ridiculous moves that send the league into a frenzy or absolutely nothing will happen and this post will look ridiculous. Let’s see what happens, shall we?
Today is the final day of the MLS season that clubs can register new players via international transfers or intra-league trades. After today, the only way additions to roster can be made is through free agency. The window officially shuts at 11:59 p.m. ET tonight.
Yesterday was a busy day for Atlanta United as they made three total moves. They began the day by trading an international roster slot to San Jose for $75,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, a substantial amount in comparison to past deals.
Atlanta just re-set the market for int'l roster spots, getting $75,000 from San Jose.

The second move featured Zach Loyd and him being placed on the Season-Ending Injury list, thus opening up a spot for the final move. Finally, the club officially announced the acquisition of veteran center back Bobby Boswell from D.C. United in exchange for a 3rd round SuperDraft pick in 2019.
Is Atlanta done making moves? Do they still have a trick or two up their sleeve? The club would neither confirm or deny to DSS if they were done making moves. So, all we can say is stay tuned throughout the day.
It’s hard to envision today being totally quiet throughout the league. There are rumors swirling all around. Here’s a look at some of the latest:
- Ethan Finlay is rumored to be on his way to Minnesota United for a combination of TAM/GAM. (Paul Tenorio)
- D.C. United is set to acquire former U.S. youth international Russell Canouse and could be adding a young, South American DP. (Steven Goff)
- Seattle Sounders’ long-rumored move for Dynamo Kiev’s Derlis Gonzalez appears to have hit a wall. (Jeff Carlisle)
It could be a busy and fun day. Or it could be boring and anti-climatic. Whatever it is, we’ll be here to guide you through it all. Please hang out with us in the comments. Help us keep track of any news or rumors. Maybe we’ll even see Darren Eales and company surprise us with something, who knows?
