Atlanta United scored a touchdown against the New England Revolution Wednesday night with a 7-0 victory, tying the MLS record for largest margin of victory and setting many goalscoring records for expansion teams. The Five Strips obviously looked no worse for wear playing a midweek league game for the first time in months. Here’s your assessment of the individual performances.
Man of the Match: Josef Martinez
Martinez claimed a personal goal-scoring record my notching his first ever first-half hat trick. He joked after the match that he’d only ever done so before on Playstation with Real Madrid. Wednesday, he looked like a player of Madrid quality. Despite two of his goals coming from the penalty spot, he was a menace all night and probably could’ve added to his tally had Atlanta not taken the foot off the gas a bit in the second half.
