Another midweek match awaits tonight as the fast and furious schedule continues on. Atlanta United host the Los Angeles Galaxy on a match that was rescheduled due to construction delays on Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This will be the first-ever match-up between the two sides and the fourth straight home match on this six-match homestand.
This match will be a chance for Atlanta to exorcise some demons, so to speak. Including an extremely embarrassing trilogy of losses to D.C. United, Tata Martino’s side has struggles against some of the worst teams in the league. Make no mistake, despite their long and successful history, the Galaxy are most certainly among the worst teams in MLS this season. It’s been a nightmare of a campaign that’s seen them fire a coach and be humiliated on the field almost all season.
Can Atlanta United take care of business against a team they should frankly wipe the floor with? It hasn’t been the case so far this season at all. If they have any aspirations of hosting a playoff game or even sneaking their way into the No. 2 seed, these are the matches you absolutely have to take full points from.
Leandro Gonzalez Pirez returns from his one-match suspension. He was sorely missed against Orlando as their two-headed monster of strikeforce ate the makeshift backline for breakfast. Hopefully LGP’s return will add the needed stability to get them back on track and get Atlanta the win. They will still be without Greg Garza, though.
