Hey, another match! The jam packed schedule offers up another midweek match for Atlanta United. This time it’s the Philadelphia Union who come to town looking to snap the current 11-match home unbeaten streak. The Five Stripes are steadily climbing up the table and have their sights set on the No. 2 seed in the East. NYCFC plays Montreal tonight. If results go Atlanta’s way, they could find themselves in that No. 2 spot. They could also see themselves slip if they lose, so they can’t take it for granted.
Miguel Almiron will be missing from this one and for the foreseeable future as he’s been sidelined with a hamstring injury. How will Tata Martino choose to replace him? We assessed some options here. Will the attack suffer from his absence or will whoever his replacement is help pick up the slack? This will be the question that decides Atlanta United’s playoff positioning.
If Atlanta can pick up three points tonight, they will official clinch a spot in the MLS Cup playoffs and become only the fourth MLS expansion club ever to do so in their first year. Will Philly keep the champagne on ice or will bottles be poppin’ in the A tonight?
