In an interview with FutbolMLS.com, Tata Martino talked honestly about Yamil Asad’s departure. According to earlier reports we know Atlanta United tried to bring back the Argentine playmaker and now we know why it didn’t happened.
In the interview, Martino said there was no chance to convince him.
“I told him that in my opinion, he was making a mistake,” Martino said in the video. “He should’ve stayed with us. Especially because he was very involved with the style of play of the team and with the fans. Yamil has a style of play that makes people fall in love with him. He has the passion that fans want players to have when they’re representing their club. We are deeply sorry he’s no longer with us.”
It is not known what exactly the offer extended to Yamil or Velez Sarsfield were, but apparently it wasn’t enough to convince the player to return.
The extended pursuit and eventual record signing of Ezequiel Barco probably influenced Asad’s decision. He would’ve had a reduced role in the team. Also, it probably didn’t sit well with him that the team broke the bank to sign a player that plays his same position.
Now that we know the team and coach wanted him back and Asad was the one that didn’t want to return, does that change the way you think about him or no?
