A few days ago, I mentioned the possibilities of the name of Atlanta United’s expansion USL side that will begin play in March. Would the club go out of the box or stick to a completely safe option?
As it turns out, the latter is the case. The name of the club is...wait for it...Atlanta United 2.
Proud to introduce ATL UTD 2!

The logo is the familiar alternating red and black stripes, with a golden spike through the 2. It’s in keeping with the naming convention other MLS-owned USL teams have taken on, i.e. New York Red Bulls 2, Toronto FC II, LA Galaxy II, etc.
The club also announced an option for fans to sign up for ticket information, with interested individuals to receive a call within the next five weeks. Other information like kit sponsor, design, etc. isn’t known yet but is sure to be released in short order.
Personally, while I would have liked a more creative, splashy name, I’m not entirely surprised the club took this approach. Do you think it’s the right call? Let us know in the comment section below with your take.
