Despite missing two of its top playmakers in Miguel Almiron and Tito Villalba, Atlanta United fought off attrition Sunday afternoon to overcome a pesky Chicago Fire side 2-1 at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The regular season home finale was one fans won’t soon forget, if not for the game itself then the immaculate conditions of the game with an open roof on a brisk, sunny fall day.
Man of the Match: Franco Escobar
I haven’t gone back and checked, but this is surely Escobar’s first time winning the prestigious award of being named your Man of the Match. The right back (or, center back) hardly put a foot wrong on either side of the pitch, even getting himself on the scoresheet to give the Five Stripes an early lead with a well-placed shot to the far post.
