In the least surprising news all year, Atlanta United’s fusion brothers Miguel Almiron and Josef Martinez have been named to the 2018 MLS Best XI. This yearly group of honors is bestowed upon eleven players who are deemed the best at their respective positions. Both of the Five Stripes’ superstars were named to the team last year as well.
It’s fitting that just hours after the announcement of the team was made, both players played a crucial part in getting Atlanta United to the Eastern Conference Final.
Martinez, the league’s Golden Boot winner, obliterated the single-season scoring record by banging in an incredible 31 goals. Meanwhile, Almiron co-led the team in assists with 14 and added 12 goals to boot. Both players are also finalists for the league’s MVP award.
