Jeff Larentowicz questionable for MLS Eastern Conference semifinal second leg vs. NYCFC

Tata Martino gives us an injury update.

Tata Martino disclosed in his weekly media availability today that verteran midfielder Jeff Larentowicz is not fully fit and his status for Sunday’s Eastern Conference semifinal second leg is still uncertain.

Martino said Larentowicz, who played as a right-sided center back in Atlanta United’s 1-0 win over NYCFC last Sunday, finished the game with “a muscle injury.” Martino declined to elaborate further after follow-up questions on the nature of the injury.

Larentowicz spoke to media ahead of this week’s match on Wednesday. He did not mention any injury, though no reporter thought to ask. Martino said Larentowicz’s injury occurred at some point during the most recent match — not during a training session this week. It’s unknown how much of a participant Larentowicz has been in Atlanta United training this week.

Larentowicz has played a vital role for Tata Martino’s team. This season, he’s started all but one league match and has the joint-most appearances of any Atlanta United player alongside Julian Gressel.
