Interestingly of note here is that Atlanta United’s home leg will be played at the team’s new home for Atlanta United 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University. It’s a stadium the first team has used on several occasions in the past for friendly matches and the U.S. Open Cup.
It’s unknown whether the game would’ve been scheduled at Mercedes-Benz Stadium if it were available. Doug Roberson from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that there is a scheduling conflict, as MBS will be filled with thousands of tons of dirt as it hosts Monster Jam on Feb. 23-24 and Supercross on March 2. Monster Jam is an entertainment event that features reinforced trucks with oversized suspension and tires doing flips, barrel rolls, and crushing junk cars, delighting everyone from the exurban enthusiasts to the flannel-wearing sarcastic hipsters.
But I digress. Fifth Third Stadium will surely be packed to the gills, so stay tuned for information on how fans can procure tickets. The stadium has a fixed seating capacity of 8,300 and can be expanded to a capacity of 10,400 with standing room. For more information on Fifth Third Stadium and what it has to offer, check out Dirty South Soccer’s profile of the venue here. It is sure to be an energetic atmosphere despite the likely cool temperatures, given the date of the fixture. What do you think about this game at Fifth Third Bank Stadium?
