The captain is going nowhere.

Michael Parkhurst has officially re-signed with Atlanta United. The captain and veteran defender inked a deal to remain with the Five Stripes after testing the free agent market. The 34-year-old center-back started 32 matches last year and was a model of consistency, professionalism, and every other adjective that we can give an older, reliable defender.

The biggest concern with re-signing Parkhurst at this point in his career is health. If Parkhurst can remain healthy there are few options that would be better for United.

There were rumors that other clubs were sniffing around and interested in swooping in and taking Parkhurst away from Atlanta. But it appears that the veteran has decided he wants to remain with the club that he led to his first MLS Cup title.

It’s hard to find many negatives for this news. Let’s just hope that Parky can somehow replicate the 2018 form that was so vital in the team’s cup run.
