December 3rd, 2018 officially became “Atlanta United FC Day” as the Atlanta City Council recognized the club and its fans in the lead up to the MLS Cup on Saturday.
Councilmember Andre Dickens, who’s clearly a big fan of the Five Stripes, introduced the proclamation, which reads in part:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT WE, the members of the Atlanta City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby proclaim this 3rd day of December 2018 as Atlanta United FC Day in the City of Atlanta. We join you in celebrating another successful season and unite with you in conquering the MLS Cup Championship Game.
The Council Chambers were a lot more packed than usual, with members of The Faction, Footie Mob, Resurgens, and Terminus Legion supporters’ groups all gathered together in the audience.
Things also got a lot rowdier than usual. Footie Mob led the crowd, including all the members of the Council, in not-that-bad renditions of the “We Ready” and “We Are the A” chants.

Atlanta players Mikey Ambrose and Romario Williams were on hand to celebrate.
“On behalf of Atlanta United, we just want to say thank you,” said Ambrose. “Thank you to the Atlanta City Council and all the fans, all the supporters’ groups. We’re super excited for this game, it’s going to be a lot of fun, and it’s all because of you all. Thank y’all so much.”
“It is an honor, on behalf of all the members of the Atlanta City Council, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, everybody here at the City of Atlanta, it is an honor for us to have such a great team, a great atmosphere, it’s like none other,” said Dickens. “We know that you’re on your road to a championship on Saturday. We’re going to take home the championship.
“On the field, their performance is spectacular. And in stands, there are no other fans like these fans.”
