A report from journalist Roberto Rojas says that Atlanta United loaning and potentially selling midfielder Miguel Almiron to Newcastle United in the upcoming winter transfer window is likely a done deal. Roberto is a well connected reporter to Almiron and the Paraguayan national team.
Hearing from sources that Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron to Newcastle United is a done deal. There are a few things left to be done but probably will join in the winter transfer window. Possibly a loan deal with an option to buy of around £15m at the end of the season.
The report narrows down some widespread “reporting” over the last few weeks that have further pushed the narrative that Almiron is going to be leaving in the coming months. The move would be a bittersweet one for United fans who’ve seen Almiron grow over the last two seasons.
Almiron finished second in this year’s MLS MVP voting behind teammate Josef Martinez. Cementing a spectacular season that saw him help lead United to the MLS Cup and an Eastern Conference Championship.
UPDATE: Several American journalists have responded to Rojas’ report by saying that a loan deal for Almiron is out of the question and the transfer fee initially reported is way too low.
FWIW - Am told there is no way Atlanta would ever do a loan deal with Miguel Almirón. Source wouldn’t comment on specific teams, but loan deal and lower sale numbers are not accurate.
