Atlanta United have announced that Romario Williams has acquired a U.S. green card and will no longer count as an international player on their roster.
The Jamaican striker scored his first goal for the Five Stripes last Saturday in a 3-1 preseason win against Nashville SC and will look to cement his spot with the first team after a stellar 2017 campaign on loan to the Charleston Battery saw the 23-year-old bag 15 goals in 22 appearances.
Atlanta now has nine players who still occupy an international slot(Miguel Almiron, Ezequiel Barco, Franco Escobar, Jon Gallagher, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Julian Gressel, Jose Hernandez, Josef Martinez, Gordon Wild), but are currently only allowed eight for the upcoming season. Doug Roberson of the AJC speculates that Martinez and Pirez could be next to obtain green cards.
Martinez and Williams back with #atlutd today. They were gone yesterday to attend personal business. LGP missed afternoon session for same reason. Team won’t say, but I’m presuming Green Card process is why.

Expect another announcement or two at some point before the regular season begins.
Congratulations again to Williams.
