Shannon, 22, was selected by Atlanta with the 36th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. So far this preseason he has appeared in both matches as a substitute in the defensive midfield role.
“Since joining our team for preseason, Ollie has proven to be a good fit for our style of play and he’s earned his place on our roster,” Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He’s a player we scouted in-depth for a long time and quickly learned that his physical makeup and player profile would fit in well with our club philosophy.”
Shannon will require an international roster slot as he hails from Liverpool, England. During his college career, he scored 13 goals and recorded 17 assists for Clemson in 82 appearances.
With the first team’s midfield depth a question mark, Shannon could be in line for some MLS minutes this season. There is also the chance that he plays for the team’s USL team some too. Congrats, Oliver!
