We’ve mercifully reached the end of the preseason calendar. This time next week we’ll be talking about soccer that actually matters. Before we get to the real stuff, we have one more friendly to discuss.
Tata Martino will apparently trot out a reserve laden lineup tonight against the Charleston Battery to wrap up the Carolina Challenge Cup. What that means exactly isn’t clear. Will it be strictly back-up players? Will guys like Franco Escobar and Tito Villalba get some minutes in to boost their fitness? Will we see youngsters like Andrew Carleton and Chris Goslin for an extended period of time? We shall see.
No matter what the lineup ends up being, it should be an interesting match to get a peak at the depth this squad has to offer. We all know what the starters can bring, it’s time to see what the best of the rest have up their sleeves.
Just 90 more minutes until we’re on the road to Houston.
