Oh and drugs at the World Cup

Our hopes of seeing Ezequiel Barco sank before the season even began with the flashy new winger reportedly out for 4-6 weeks. Let’s hope that he only misses that long as the injury timelines for Atlanta United don’t typically conform to expected measurements of time on occasion. In any case it brings up several questions, like:

Will Tata just push Darlington Nagbe over to the wing and further weaken his central midfield?

Is 17 year old winger and trier of stuff Andrew Carleton about to get a chance to start?

Is plan ‘C’ going to be what actually happens and going to disappoint all of us?

That will be answered in some manner by Saturday at about 2:30PM.

Anyway, onto the Dirt...

Domestic

The USWNT will take on Germany in the first match of the SheBelieves Cup on Thursday. For a preview and how to watch, head on over to Stars and Stripes FC.

Ted Westervelt got served today - the serving was liked by over 30 people and the parting line “Farewell sweet boy -kissy face emoji-” was so severe that Mexico decided to end promotion and relegation. Westervelt is survived by clubs who have succeeded or failed on the open market and a bunch of people who believe one thing will solve all of the problems in the world.

After I dunked on the Philadelphia Union for being terrible, they went out and signed a new DP to play in the no. 10 role. Borek Dockal joined from Chinese side Henan Jianye on loan. The Czech player reportedly reminds Jim Curtain of Tranquillo Barnetta, presumably because he will stay with the team for a year and a half, realize plays for the Union, and get as far away from the team as humanly possible.

But wait, one last thing! American coach currently coaching USMNT thinks the USMNT needs to have an American coach. Can we just not do this please?

International

Tottenham beat Rochdale 8-1 6-1 thanks to two goals that were disallowed after video review. This was as bad a refereeing performance as anything this side of Koman Coulibaly.

Also today was day one of the Algarve Cup in Portugal - the tournament the USWNT had played in for years until starting SheBelieves. The scores can be found here with Australia playing a thrilling 7 goal game against Norway and Holland easily dispatching Japan 6-2. The second round starts Friday - matches can be found if you use creative internet searching skills for streams.

Coming to a World Cup near you - a permissible list of addictive substances.

Goal

They lost, but this is a pretty sweet consolation goal for Japan
