In what will come as absolutely no surprise to Atlanta United fans, MLS announced today that Miguel Almiron’s upper-90 blast from distance is this week’s winner of Goal of the Week.
The goal was a thing of beauty, with Miggy teeing up the ball for a perfectly-aimed shot that threaded the needle between three D.C. defenders on its way to the back of the net.
But it was only one part of an all-round exemplary performance, with Almiron deservedly getting the Golden Spike, as well as Man of the Match Honors from both DSS readers and staff. His game included an assist on Tito Villalba’s goal, and a game-high Audi Index score of 878.
Meanwhile, Atlanta United fans maintain their perfect record in fan votes, despite MLS changing its voting rules to only one vote per fan (somehow I doubt the efficiency of enforcement on that). Keep it up, 17s.
