Atlanta United is up for Sports Team of the Year on the Sports Business Journal 2018 awards.
This comes after a fantastic opening season that featured multiple attendance-breaking records and one of the best inaugural seasons in MLS history. Destroying the idea/narrative that soccer can’t thrive in the south.
They will be up against the Golden State Warriors, Houston Astros, Nashville Predators, Toronto Raptors, and another expansion side Vegas Golden Knights.
Arthur Blank, owner of Atlanta United and Atlanta Falcons, is nominated for Sports Executive of the Year.
Blank had a fantastic 2017 season which featured both of his teams (Atlanta United and Falcons) having great seasons in their respective leagues. On top of this, he debuted his masterpiece of a stadium, Mercedes Benz Stadium. A stadium that, in my opinion, offers one of the best viewing experiences in all of sports.
Blank also changed the concession game in sports and entertainment. Concessions at Mercedes Benz offers affordable food and drinks, something that has been the complete opposite for a while now across the major sports.
Speaking of the concessions at Mercedes Benz, their “Food & Beverage Experience” is being nominated for Sports Breakthrough of the Year. As mentioned earlier, it’s fan-friendly prices are game-changing. There’s more though, the services are fast and the variety of options are vast. On top of that, the quality doesn’t drop off or differ from different sporting events even with the price drop.
Winners of the awards will be handed out at a ceremony on May 23. To view the full list of Awards and Nominations, click here.
