Darlington Nagbe named among most overrated and underrated in MLS by fellow players

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Houston Dynamo Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

In a recent poll done by ESPN, they “asked 104 current MLS players who they believed were the league’s most overrated and underrated players”.

The most peculiar detail coming from this poll is Atlanta United’s Darlington Nagbe being named to both lists.

It’s one thing for fans to have differing opinions on a player, but it’s even more interesting when Nagbe’s own peers are conflicted by the USMNT midfielder’s play. This is a similar sentiment we’ve seen throughout his career. Regardless of who is asked, people are generally conflicted on how good the former Portland Timber is.

It’s important to remember that this poll was taken during the preseason, so it’s fair to assume that Nagbe’s play in Atlanta could not have been taken into consideration by the MLS players asked.

Here is the Top 5 list of Most Overrated and Most Underrated players and where Nagbe stands, according to the poll.

Overrated:

1. Giovani Dos Santos

2. Michael Bradley

T3. Jozy Altidore

T3. Gyasi Zardes

5. Paul Arriola

8. Darlington Nagbe

Underrated:

  1. Ignacio Piatti
  2. Dax McCarty
  3. Cristian Roldan
  4. Wil Trapp
  5. Ilie Sanchez
  6. Darlington Nagbe
