Days before their first ever match, Atlanta United 2 announced the signings of Jose Carranza and Devon Sandoval to fill out their inaugural roster.
Carranza is a 19-year-old midfielder who last played for North Carolina FC. He went through the D.C. United youth system before making nine appearances for the former NASL side. Carranza was also capped four times for the U.S. U18 national team.
Sandoval brings MLS experience to the reserve team, having made 58 appearances in four seasons with Real Salt Lake. The forward had stints with RSL’s USL affiliate Real Monarchs, North Carolina FC, Rayo OKC, and last played for the defending NASL champion San Francisco Deltas.
With these signings, ATL UTD 2 now has 14 players on USL contracts. The remainder of the team will be filled out by first team players struggling to find playing time and academy players.
Atlanta United 2 takes the field for the first time on Saturday, March 24 against New York Red Bulls II at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
