ATL UTD 2 RECAP: Atlanta’s newest team opens season with 3-1 win

the deuce has in fact been let loose.

via Drew Dinwiddie

Atlanta United 2 opened their inaugural campaign with a 3-1 win against New York Red Bulls II at Coolray Field.

The reserves kicked the season off on the right foot(I’m sorry) after Yosef Samuel’s terrific scissor kick goal came off a NYRB deflection in the 25th minute.

The Red Bulls answered quickly, as Jared Stroud’s cross found an unmarked Brian White for an easy 33rd minute finish.

However, Jon Gallagher’s constant effort in the attack finally paid off in the 41st, converting a penalty after being dragged down earlier to give AU2 the lead heading into halftime.

Things got even better for Gallagher and company, as the Irishman completed his brace after a scrumptious cross from Samuel in the 51st to seal what was a terrific night for ATL UTD 2.

Next up for the Five Stripers(again, sorry) is a trip to Charlotte as they take on the Independence Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m.

Lineup(4-3-3): Kann, Ambrose, Cochran, Robinson, Wheeler-Omiunu, Shannon, Metcalf, Kissiedou, Gallagher, Kunga, Samuel

Goals: Yosef Samuel(25’), Jon Gallagher(41’, 51’)

Substitutions: Devon Sandoval for Gallagher(55’), Jose Carranza for Laurent Kissiedou(76’), Andrew Kendall-Moullin for Lagos Kunga(85’)
