MLS: D.C. United at Atlanta United FC Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Full-time: 4-0 Final. It’s mercifully over.

45+5’ Houston 4, Atlanta 0: Basically the Revolution game in the Benz but in reverse.

39’ - LGP Hurt: More good news! Leandro Gonzalez Pirez has been stretchered off with what appeared to be a hip/side issue. Michael Parkhurst has replaced him.

27’ - Houston 3, Atlanta 0: Umm. This isn’t good.

24’ - Houston 2, Atlanta 0: An awful start has continued for Atlanta United as they’ve fallen behind 2-0. Philippe Senderos jumped over everyone on a corner and headed in the second for Houston. Oof.

6’ - Houston 1, Atlanta 0: The Dynamo have taken a very early lead through Andrew Wenger. An errant ball into the corner was misplayed badly by Pirez and he was outmuscled by Alberth Elis to win possession. Elis played a simple square ball for the easy tap-in. A poor start to the season for the Five Stripes.

Pre-Match: IT. IS. TIME. Season two is finally upon us.

Atlanta United kick off their sophomore season today in Houston. After a devastating penalty shootout loss in their first-ever playoff match last year and a flurry of offseason moves, we finally get to see the team back on the field in a competitive fashion.

While we won’t get to see the team’s prized offseason acquisition, Ezequiel Barco, as he’s been put on the shelf for 4-6 weeks with a quad injury, we will get to see newcomers like Darlington Nagbe, Franco Escobar and possibly even a glimpse of 17-year-old phenom Andrew Carleton.

It’s been a long few soccerless months but we’ve survived. Now it’s time to get down to business as Atlanta United pushes for their first senior team trophy of their existence. The road starts today. Enjoy the ride.

Note: We’re trying something new with our match threads this year. We’ll be updating the post with updates of goals and big moments as they happen. Check back every so often during the match for highlights and commentary.
