Darlington Nagbe was one of the big offseason acquisitions by Atlanta United and so far, he’s come into Tata Martino’s team and been a calming influence in the midfield, as expected.
The U.S. international sat down with FOX Sports South for a nice little interview. It’s not too long, but it’s packed with information and insight to get to know a little more about the midfielder.
One thing I found particularly interesting in the above video is when he talks about players he enjoys watching himself. He specifically mentions FC Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta as a player he idolizes. It’s funny he mentions Iniesta as his game somewhat resembles the Spaniard’s. Both a technically great on the ball and can unlock a defense with one pass. Obviously Iniesta’s resume speaks for itself as he’s one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, but Nagbe has done pretty well for himself if that’s the player he’s modeled his game after.
Nagbe goes on to discuss his move from Portland and his desire to play in front of a passionate and rabid fan base. He also talks about his first day in Atlanta and meeting the fans for the first time after arriving in a private jet. The video is well worth the less than two minutes.
