Atlanta United to wear special edition environment-friendly black kit against LA Galaxy

For the oceans!

For this second year in a row, Major League Soccer is teaming up with adidas and Parley for the Oceans to celebrate Earth Day with special edition environment-friendly kits. Last season, four MLS clubs wore the kits that are made from upcycled marine plastic intercepted by Parley ocean clean-up operations in the Maldives.

Atlanta United will get in on the action this season with a black kit with white accents. The kit will be worn when the Five Stripes travel to take on the LA Galaxy on April 21. Each kit takes 20 plastic bottles out of the ocean to manufacture.

“Every second breath we take is generated by the oceans. And still, we are at war with the sea,” said Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans, in a statement. “Now is the time to negotiate peace with our life support and to invent our way out of this mess. Soccer can lead the way. It shows what we can achieve with the right balance of creativity, collaboration and technology.”

These kits will be available to buy, but appear to be sold out online as of writing. Make sure to keep checking the official online store to see if they get restocked.

Obviously helping the environment is a very cool excuse to get another Atlanta United kit. Aside from that awesome initiative, what do you think about the kit itself? Will you try and buy one? Let us know in the comments.
