A reporter connected with BeIn sports is reporting that Atlanta United are one of several teams interested in signing veteran midfielder Stephane Mbia after the 31-year-old terminated his contract with Herbei China Fortune earlier this week.

Mbia has been more or less a journeyman in his career, albeit playing in some of the best leagues in the world. Starting in Ligue 1 with Rennes, he proceeded to Marseille before playing in the Premier League with QPR and La Liga with Sevilla. The Cameroonian international has 67 caps.
Atlanta United has remained steadfast in their willingness to sign a central midfielder to help fill the void left by the departed Carlos Carmona. Mbia certainly fits the profile that Atlanta is looking for — a deeply experienced player that is strong in the tackle, tactically flexible and capable on the ball. Despite the fact that he’s closing in on the twighlight of his career (he’ll be 32 next month), he looks like a mobile player who can cover lots of ground on the pitch.
